Hi peeps.

Just came in here to express gratitude for being un-banned ☺️. Given that I've merely created an account and nearly immediately afterwards got an insta-ban, I am fairly convinced it's due to me using Tor. I... know. A lot of malicious folks use Tor for spamming and whatnot. And the whatnot part I'd rather not spell out as it's really rough if I understood correctly. But... I just want to have that false sense of security-slash-anonymity while downloading my silly RARs of old software although I know everything everywhere is fingerprinted.

So yeah, here goes a thank you to the admin team and a plea to maybe consider that not all of us Tor users are spamming (and whatnot) scum of the Earth :(.

Cheers!

Weird, I checked and your account was never banned.
Maybe one of the IP ranges you were using was banned for an extended period of time, I know I cleaned up the banned IP list a while ago.
Some of the TOR IP ranges you used have a lot of members connected with it.
If some douchebag new member decides to abuse that exit node and persistently gets banned it's possible that node was banned from accessing the forum for a few months.
Seeing most of them were IPv6, those bans are rather strict and cover a huge sub range.

tip: TOR/VPN's are actively rejected during signup (done by an anti spam addon, not staff), but once you have an active account it's no longer rejected.

The forum (maybe the main site too) feels very slow / sluggish now.
Unsure what is going on, but everything that involves background processing (like searching and making changes to things) seems extremely slow.

Dunno what is causing it.
Registration has been closed for now. I'll see if I can find anything on the backend that is visible to me.

On my side, the banned UX, i.e. clicking any link resulting in a "sorry you're banned"-ish message always started happening after logging in, so I thought it was the account which ended up in the bad apples bin. To make matters worse, neither requesting a new Tor circuit nor even taking a break for a few days (or weeks) made no difference... until, all of a sudden, woah, I can access the forum.

Beats me. I'll chalk it up to me just being at the wrong place having the wrong IP in the wrong moment, as you said.
