Synopsis: John Romer investigates the Bible as History. He describes the development of an English Language bible from early times and highlights the scholarly work put into biblical interpretation over the centuries. Absolutely fascinating, as Romer can explain even the most apocryphal fact and make it familiar with his friendly (Cockney) style. At the end we are left with the conclusion that whether we are Christian, Jewish or not, the bible is the story of Western civilisation - ie OUR story. The series was produced in 1988 and consists of 7 x 52-minute episodes. It was produced and directed by Mischa Scorer who has a long history of producing thoroughly fascinating documentaries. John Romer himself is a well-qualified egyptologist also with a body of work behind him.
